About Mela Times

Mela Times is an independent outlet for stories from Africa and the African diaspora, home and abroad. We cover whatever the moment calls for: politics, business, culture, personal essays, the ordinary and the urgent. No single beat owns us.

Our stories, told by us, in our own voices: reported pieces, personal essays, poetry, and spoken word. New work goes up as it's ready.

What you'll find here

Under Writing, you'll find reported pieces, essays, columns, and fables. Under Watch & Listen, you'll find audio and video, including spoken word and poetry you can hear in the author's own voice.

Never miss a new piece
